Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma was just six when she decided she wanted to make it as an actress. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she was taught singing and acting. As a ten year old Emma was a participant in multiple Stagecoach Productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 remake to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was announced in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint of their auditions after eight. They were selected as the 3 leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's film debut. The movie broke all records in terms of the opening weekend and revenue, making it the top-grossing 2001 film. Film critics praised the film as well as the performance of three young stars. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma won the Young Artist Award as the leading young actress in the Feature Film. The actress was awarded five times for her work in the film.
